Eyre

I’ve been so busy planning our upcoming 2000km experiment (11 days, 1 campervan, Michelle, me, mum & Pete) that I haven’t had a chance to get anything else done this week and it’s already Thursday. I’ve been knee deep in caravan park bookings and counting kilometres.

We’re combining wine & seafood, visiting the Clare Valley, Eyre Peninsula, Barossa Valley and the Adelaide Hills. It’s going to be one amazing trip….

working for wine…

It’s not such a novel idea, considering I spend most of our disposable income on wine in one form or another. But yesterday I worked at Wine Odyssey overseeing and setting up for a wine judging event of NSW wines for WineState magazine. It was hard work, a long day, but a great day and even more exciting was that I actually already knew one of the judges. I finished with wine all over me, but not a drop passed my lips, as opposed to the judges who had to get through 220 wines in one day.

I came away a little bit more knowledgeable, a little bit more comfortable, and a case of wine richer. All in all, it was a pretty good day.

So far, this was the only thing we’ve planned for this years mardi gras celebrations here in Sydney. It was great. At the Seymour Centre on Friday night, she was relaxed, interesting and the audience wasn’t too bad either asking intelligent questions when the time came to have our say.

The famous parade was Saturday night and we would have gone but we were invited to a 70th birthday party ‘Aloha Style’ out in Palm Beach. It was a fantastic evening, Virginia put on this amazing spread, white linen tablecloths, tables on the lawn, a bar set up doing mojitos and margaritas, a bbq doing merguez sausages and blue cheese burgers, an oyster bar and all just 5cms from the sand, and then the sea. It was lovely to see about 70 people decked out in Hawaiian shirts having a ball of a time.

Thankfully we were offered a bed out there by a neighbour so that we didn’t have to take the 90 minute bus journey home on a Saturday night with all the other losers…
