Michelle the Radio Star!
Michelle was recorded speaking with Monique Giroux last week as part of her series talking to Quebecers around the world on Espace Musique. We received an email from Stephanie saying that she heard it on Feb 18th… being over here, we don’t have access to the recording, but I think you can call it up on the Radio Canada website if you’re interested…

bye bye Erskineville
We’re going to have to move… the landlord has decided to sell. Despite assuring us just weeks ago that there should be no problem for us to stay through our entire 3 year contract, he sent us a letter (addressed to Michelle HOWARD) advising us of his intention to sell and our subsequent kicking out of our home. We do have an option… we can buy the house at the bargain price of $950,000, but if not, June 19th is the D day.
It’s very upsetting. We’ve only been in here a year, not quite even. It takes us forever to pack and unpack and now we’re going to have to do it all over again. If you haven’t managed to get here yet, you’ve missed a great party house, and a great house for guests with it’s own guest quarters separate to the house. Oh well, nevermind.
On the plus side, we get to try out a different neighbourhood, maybe one closer to the beach – although if we do that, we’ll have to downsize again to an apartment.
But who knows, we have to find something first, amidst school, work and holidays….

back to school
I started back at school on Monday and I’ve decided this is really the best course ever. My new class, for the next 5 weeks at least, is food and wine pairing. Not only do we get to taste 9 wines, but we get to match them with 3 entrees, 3 mains and 3 desserts! None of those little tapas sized servings either, these are the real deal. I managed to try the prawn bisque, ravioli stuffed with feta, smoked quail with mango salsa for the entrees, a piece of panfried salmon with the best potato whip ever, a beef medallion with snow peas and stuffed duck legs for mains and by the time dessert arrived I was struggling… I managed the creme brulee, a taste of the chocolate bavarois and only a slither of the rhubarb and custard tart. All matched with some seriously interesting wines.
I waddled out of class and came home to make Michelle a sandwich for dinner… Tonight we’re moving onto international wines, perhaps a good french burgandy or spanish rioja. I’ll let you know.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much rain. So much for summer, we were always warned that February is the most humid month in Sydney but this is ridiculous. It hasn’t stopped raining. All my plants are drowning and we’ve had to start taking bucket loads of water OUT of the fishtank to stop it overflowing. We have leaks in the bathroom skylight, leaks that come through the garage, and everything is wet and damp.
On the plus side it’s still 27 degrees. But there’s loads of rain, loads and loads of it. Tropical rains in Sydney, who would’ve guessed?
