Freda Mary Barnes (Lewis)
Nanna passed away this morning… I’m trying to sleep and it’s only really just hit me. My mum asked me to say something at the funeral and I’ve had images of my life flit through my brain, memories of me and nanna – me, mum & nanna, because as far back as I can remember, it’s been me, mum and nanna.
She was an amazing woman, ahead of her time. She was always immaculately dressed, always sparkling and bright, she’d charm everyone around her, and she wasn’t afraid of anything that I ever knew of. You couldn’t have asked for a better grandmother, she loved me, she spoilt me, and I adored her. For the first 20 years of my life she sent me postcards from all the exotic places she travelled to, and for the last 20 years of my life I’ve been sending her postcards from all the exotic places I’ve travelled to.
She often told me how I must have got the travel bug from her… and I often told her that I thought I got a lot more from her than that. I’m going to miss you nanna.

We spent the weekend in Broke and the Hunter Valley visiting cellar doors. We visited all types of wineries, some big commercial, soul-less operations and other small boutique properties where everyone was passionate about what they do, what they make and what you think. It was a very interesting weekend. We drank some lovely wines, we were staying in a fabulous house, and we met some lovely people. Couldn’t really ask for more.
I’m dashing about now trying to get my chores finished before my mum & pete arrive tomorrow for 10 days. On their way out, we have a couple from Paris that are coming to stay for 3 days, and then we’ll be pretty close to the run up for christmas! This year is flying by…

I just came across this picture, in the Palais Royale last year after we got back from our holidays in Provence…

Its the big night tonight. Presentation of my Gundagai assignment. We’re both looking forward to it, Michelle because she’s sick of being a guinea pig having to finish all these bottles of undrinkable Gundagai wine, and me because I hate presenting stuff, doing homework etc etc. Plus I’m sick of drinking undrinkable wine too….
I think we’ll celebrate with a nice clean viognier. I’ll chill one right now so I don’t forget.
Temperature is going to be up in the 30s today, nice and sunny, but decreasing slowly in time for another weekend in the Hunter Valley. This trip is with ‘school’ too, only this time instead of concentrating on producing wine, we’re concentrating on drinking wine. We have about 10 scheduled cellar door visits, via the back door, over 3 days, and we’ve kept one day free to go house hunting in Wollombi. Word has it that there are still some nice properties available out there. You never know, one day we may just start our own vineyard. Imagine that!

Pink & Yellow & pale Blue & White
We’ve finally got chairs for the backyard. The BBQ and the teak table were one of our first purchases but we hadn’t bought any chairs. We were umming and ahhing over whether to buy chairs or a bench, or a mix or nothing at all and keep dragging our inside chairs out whenever the weather was nice. Then on Saturday last week we were in Newport having lunch with friends who told us we really should go and check out a great interior shop – which I did (Michelle napped in the car) and there they were. The chairs. Various pale pastel colours, lightweight, made for the outdoors, low backs. Perfect, except for the price and the long delivery.
We got back into town on Sunday, I checked on the net and there was another supplier here in Sydney – so Monday morning I was off and out, they had the chairs I wanted, at a reduced price for floor stock. I am now the proud owner of 4 Jasper Morrison air chairs….

if I won the lottery
I’d buy this house… and live happily ever-after.

It was the long weekend here in Sydney last weekend. The time changed, we’re now officially in summer time, yet the weather has gone backwards. For our first weekend away to the beach the weather decided to drop 10 degrees and rain, all weekend. It was nice to relax, sit about, read papers and books and magazines and not do anything too much, but it really was a shame it wasn’t hot and sunny.
Virginia has gone away for work, and she’s left us a key so we’re going to head back up there next weekend and give it another shot. I want to go swimming. In the surf, with the waves and hopefully when the sun is out…
