Twice in the last 2 weeks I’ve been to watch danse under the stars in the Palais Royale. It’s superb, the setting is gorgeous in an outside stadium in the centre of the Palais Royale, and the programs have been as different from each other as can be but both wonderful. It’s part of the ‘Paris Quartier d’ete’ celebrations. Paris in the summertime….

Weddings 101

A beautiful wedding… the real thing. White dress, handsome groom, flower girls, church, champagne, brioche, reception in a castle, garden party and on and on. Not a thing out of place, if I didn’t know that no-one has heard of Martha Stewart over here I would argue that Anne followed Martha Stewarts Guide to Weddings 101….

This weekend we have a wedding to go to in Champagne. We’re going to get all frocked up, and drink plenty of champagne, in-between tears and dancing and eating. A 3 day fair that’s been in planning since sometime last year…. we’re both really looking forward to it. Michelle will look like a fairy in a green flowing original, and me like a 70’s diva in fushia and glittering silver.

Can’t wait…

July 16, 2008

This year, 2008, I decided that July 12th would make a good day for Michelle’s birthday. As you may or may not know Michelle and I have the same birthday, August 16th, and this year, just like we did in 2002 for Michelle – I’m having the whole day for myself, August 16th that is.

So Saturday, I woke up early, squeezed fresh orange juice for her, made her a cup of tea and brought her breakfast in bed with a gift. She was a little surprised but she played along. The day we spent shopping for her. Visiting the sales, I was patient, I didn’t leave her alone and head to Galleries Lafayette Maison, I went with her, into one store, out another, watched her try stuff on, pushed and shoved against all the other skinny girls for teenager size clothes. We had sushi for lunch, we found her a lovely watch, plenty of new clothes, a belt, we walked all the way, no complaints from me, I kept just wishing her a happy birthday.

At 6pm we jumped on the metro in a bit of a rush because we had arrangements for dinner with Anne & Olivier. That was the cover story. In fact we got home, I insisted she wear something nice (and not pull out the ironing board) and then one by one, 12 guests arrived to celebrate her birthday with her. It was really nice. She was really surprised and very happy – she hadn’t seen some of the people there for ages, and others she’d been insisting on calling to see over the long weekend before the holidays start.

We had champagne at the house, then we all went on down to Vintage, where Philippe the owner and chef had prepared a special Lebanese plate for her on the menu, had carafe’d some excellent wines well in advance and prepared the most magnificent dark & white chocolate mousse birthday cake for her, complete with many many candles!

Thanks to all of you who joined us and played along. Now we have just me to concentrate on in August…

Figuration Narrative

Straight back into life here, and today I went with Di and the kids to see the Figuration Narrative exhibition at the Grand Palais. I had no expectations, but the show was fabulous. I really enjoyed it.

And then, on top of that we stopped for a coffee, hot chocolate and a macaroon at Angelinas on the rue de Rivoli… a typical Parisien day.

A quiet affair..

Our wedding

There was no big announcement, unless you count the day at Maries pool party when Jacqui asked
“when are you two going to get married?”.

We had a lovely day on the 5th of July, the crowd in Montreal organised it, Roger & Lorraine hosted it and Marie made a very scrumptious wedding cake.

Thanks to all of you that made it so special, by being there or by sending your best wishes.

Thank you.

We’re back

Exhausted, bags full of dirty laundry, black circles under our eyes, a bit of a suntan, and sore feet, but it’s real nice to be home… even though it’s raining and cold here in Paris. Just how we left it.
